About the Artist

Birgitt Wolny is an artist, who combines traditional craftsmanship with modern style. She believes that art can be attractive, accessible, and fun without compromising quality and creativity.

Her decorative work - larger than life floral paintings, abstract landscapes, and sumptuous reflections – are energizing yet calming in their precision. Nuances of bold saturated colors play with light and shadow to give the paintings depth and vivacity.

The play on words is the theme of another series of paintings Birgitt Wolny is currently working on. She takes German compound words like “Zeitgeist” literally (Zeit = time, Geist = spirit or ghost), and translates them into visual images. These humorous paintings often pay homage to artists ranging from the Dutch Baroque painter Jan Vermeer (1632-75), to Surrealists like Rene Magritte (1898-1967) and Salvador Dali (1904-89).

Over ten years ago, Birgitt Wolny decided to make art her full time profession and to improve her skills further by studying at the Freie Kunstwerkstatt München for graphic design, illustration and painting. She works mostly in oil on canvas or in a mixed technique of acryl and oil. But for various projects, such as illustrations for educational media, children’s books or placards, she also utilizes watercolor, pencil and airbrush. She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions and had the honor to show her work two times at the famous Haus der Kunst in München.

Birgitt Wolny lives in the Bavarian countryside north of Munich with her husband, her two children, two cats, and a German Shepherd. She is member of the time-honored association of artists Dachau (KVD). She is also member of the Cooperative Society of Munich Artists (MKG) privileged 1868 by King Ludwig II and she is member of the German Professional Association of artists (BBK).
